I probably shouldn't draw this out any longer, right?
Got this miserable press release from Valerie pitching an "expert" in identity theft:
The five most fashionable ways an ID thief steals your identity or clones you — goes through your garbage, eavesdrops at ATM machines to steal credit card numbers, college students not shredding pre-approved credit card letters, impersonators that pose as salespeople with bogus companies to steal your credit cards, and targeting seniors (door to door selling).
I can offer victims and an ID theft expert to tell you how to be more savvy. Do ID theft prevention companies, such as LifeLock, really work?
And so i write back:
" Hi Valerie, interesting topic. Can you tell me why you think this fits on our show?"
And she replies:
Thanks for getting back to me. With identity theft being such a hot topic right now, I think your listeners can really benefit from what Chris Harris, President and CEO of One You Security, has to say. Chris can inform the audience of the most common ways that identities are being stolen today as well as offer tips on how it can be prevented.
Please let me know if you would be interested in booking Chris.
So i hit her back with:
"Again, i know it's a hot topic, but we have a very specific editorial mission and i'm not sure how this might fit in...what do you think?"
and she writes a big paragraph linking to a lot of local stories about identity theft.
The question: I want to write the following:
Dear Valerie
I can't shake this nagging suspicion that you're not terribly familiar with our program. Would Chris be comfortable fitting his expertise into the type of subject we tend to cover?
But i probably shouldn't...right?

Ridiculous or awesome?
Rich Ghazarian...this guy sends me one a day...sometimes more. They're usually pretty stupid: "The Untold Spy Mission of WWII", was another recent favorite.
But the headline for this? Battle-Ready ROBOTS?!?! I almost want to set up an interview with this guy and talk about Voltron for 30 minutes.
Rich, I will probably never use one of your guests...but i love your ludicrous press releases. Keep 'em coming.
Could Israel Swap Nuclear Bombs for Battle-Ready Robots?
Artificial Intelligence Expert Predicts Robots Will Fundamentally Change US Military
Topic Summary
Hundreds of billions of dollars are being funneled into artificial intelligence in the military, and what seemed only a few years ago like science fiction is quickly becoming reality. The successful Predator aircraft drones and bomb-defusing robots in Iraq are only the beginning in the rapidly expanding arsenal of thinking weapons that will soon be used by the US military. It is no longer far-fetched to think that a nation would value an army of battle-tested robots more than a nuclear arsenal. Howard S. Smith, a MIT-trained engineer and artificial intelligence expert and author of “I, robot”, will reveal what the future holds.
Discussion Topics
· How are you able to use the “I, robot” title since you didn’t write the original book?
· What do you see as the future of artificial intelligence?
· Will any of us in our lifetimes see real robots cleaning the house and doing the laundry?
· How much of what we see in today’s science fiction thrillers are based on reality?
· How much has changed in artificial intelligence since the original “I, Robot” book was published?
· What parts of the original “I, Robot” book and movie are realistic given the state of artificial intelligence today?
· Why isn’t more money being spent in artificial intelligence products for consumers?
· How much of your new book is taken from today’s headlines?
Topic Overview
For those adults who were raised on the Jetsons (a cartoon family of the 1960s that had a robot that could take out the dog and clean the house) and are waiting on that reality, artificial intelligence expert and author Howard S. Smith has a few words for you.
“Don’t hold your breath if you are looking for new AI breakthroughs in consumer products,” he said. “Hundreds of billions of dollars are going into military applications, but there is virtually no money for consumer applications.”
Smith is a MIT-trained engineer who is credited with creating the artificial intelligence that is utilized in supermarket self-checkout machines. He has written a new “I, robot” techno thriller to update the original “I, Robot” book that was written in the 1940’s and was the basis of the 2004 movie starring Will Smith.
His fascination with artificial intelligence started as a child. “One of the first books I read as a boy was “I, Robot” by Isaac Asimov,” he said.
“As I left the theater after seeing the 2004 movie, I realized how out-of-date the artificial intelligence used in the movie was. After all, the movie was based on a book that was more than 60 years old.” So he set out to write a new “I, robot” novel that utilizes the back-story of existing technology and current world events, and takes readers on a riveting ride, while still connecting with the original Asimov book.
About Howard S. Smith
Howard S. Smith has a degree in Biomedical engineering from MIT. He was the founder and president of Optimal Robotics, which patented, designed, built and installed the supermarket self-checkout machines, which were originally called “service robots.” He left the company before it went public on NASDAQ in 1996. The company eventually sold the self-checkout robotics to Fujitsu and NCR, purchased other companies, and changed its name to Optimal Group. Smith currently offers consulting services in the area of robotics and artificial intelligence through Robot Binaries & Press Corp.

Rule #5: Where did you get that number!?!
I don't know how it got out, but some flack, somewhere, got ahold of my cell number and it spread like crabs at Burning Man.
Don't call me at home.
Don't send things to 3 different email addresses.
Rule #5 is: If i don't respond to your release within 45 minutes, don't call and leave 2 VMs.
Especially if you're not following Rule #2

Glitter and Puffy paint
So, nothin' really wrong with this, good layout, highlighting allowing me to scan this and see that it's entirely inappropriate for our show, and this person has no idea who she's sending it out to. But otherwise it's not bad. Unfortunately blogger doesn't quite have the color pink in their palatte that Lauren used. Which kind of defeats the purpose of me posting it here, because the notable thing was the shocking hot pink highlights...
So...nevermind.

Personal Gripe #1
Nothin' gets my goat more than Christian's playing the "persecuted minority" role. "Oh," they seem to say "the big bad secular world is coming down on us, HARD! All we want to do is b'lieve what we b'lieve, worship in peace, and murder anyone who doesn't think likewise."
I mean, we probably shouldn't ban any books, (much to the chagrin of a certain veep candidate) Christian or otherwise. It's like the old saw about the NRA: I'd be much more willing to support them if they'd go to the mat for any of the other 9 amendments in the Bill o' Rights.
Christians: You got free rein to pray and bow and whatever, no one gives you the hairy eyeball when you get on a plane wearing a WWJD bracelet, and you don't have to pay taxes on your ginormous churches.
Qwitcherbellyachin', and let us heathens read our Harry Potter in peace.
As children go back to school some books in libraries may be missing. More and more public schools are pulling Christian books from the shelves due to parents complaints and because of the separation of church and state. Why is this becoming a trend now? Shouldn't Christian students have the right to have their books in the libraries?
Able to discuss this and more is Christian author of The Twelve Window, J.M. Norwood. Norwood says that Christian students should have every right that other students have including having their books in the libraries. She can also explain why schools are just now pulling the books. Would you be interested on interviewing her on this?
Thank you for any consideration.

Rule #2: Have some knowledge of the media outlets you're sending your PR to
Is Jerry Seinfeld so hard up for cash? Did he blow it all on fancy cars?
Probably not, but this publicist probably bought a list of media people and just hit the "Send to All" button.
Would you send a release about Black History Month to the Aryan Nation's Radio Network? No...
Would you send a release about chicken recipes to Vegan's Weekly?
If you're Meredith Turner you do!

The Seinfeld Campus Tour is hitting Chicago on September 16-18, and we’d love to have you participate by:
1) Running an on-air Seinfeld trivia contest
2) Broadcasting live from the bus
3) Interviewing Larry Thomas, the actor who portrayed the “Soup Nazi”
We have Seinfeld season DVD box-sets (various seasons) and other great Seinfeld merchandise to offer as prizes. If “Nth caller” contests or other styles of on-air promotions suit your format better than trivia contests, that works great, too. We just want you to participate!
The Seinfeld Campus Tour is a 26-city, 10,000 mile cross-country road trip in a 60-foot long Seinfeld branded, bio-diesel fueled bus designed to integrate the show directly into the digital, on-the-move, multi-tasking lifestyle of college students and members of the 70 million plus millennial demographic. For your convenience, I’ve included more details below.
With tons of activities, priceless props from the show and a larger-than-life “Seinfeld Experience” bus, this is one spectacle you will not want to miss!
I look forward to hearing your thoughts. Please feel free to give me a call at 212.255.8455 to discuss further.
All the best,
Meredith

Rule #1: Not Everything that happens is Newsorthy
This is the Press Release that inspired this blog: essentially she is telling you that her client wrote a smeary post about Jerry Orbach, and his son replied to her blog.
Possible headlines: "Son of famous person comments on blog!"
"Briscoe Junior fights back!"
MEDIA ALERT
SON OF LATE JERRY ORBACH WANTS
HIS OWN “LAW & ORDER”!
CHRIS ORBACH POSTS RESPONSE
ON WWW.FIRSTWIVESWORLD.COM
SETS RECORD STRAIGHT RE: HIS LATE FATHER’S
WILL AND HIS STEP MOTHER’S ACTIONS
Speak to Firstwivesworld.com’s Jill Brooke about her article
that incited the “Law & Order” star’s son to fight back on Firstwivesworld.com.
WHAT: www.firstwivesworld.com Editor-in-Chief Jill Brooke’s article, “Jerry Orbach’s Ungrateful Son Attacks Step Mother” has invoked the retort of the “ungrateful son” himself: Chris Orbach.
In a post on the premiere site for divorced women, Chris responded to Brooke’s article, which stands by the step mother and her actions executing the will. He voices why the media has portrayed him incorrectly, stating “I accepted it. I even signed a ‘waiver of process’ legally guaranteeing her that I wouldn't contest the will. But just because you accept something doesn't mean you have to like it.”
Through Jill’s article and Chris’ response, we learn more about the Jerry Orbach estate case than ever before. More importantly, we learn just how sensitive such blended family issues are and how they often spin out of control.
Jill Brooke, Editor-in-Chief at www.firstwivesworld.com, the first online community devoted to women transitioning through divorce, speaks candidly on Chris’ response, her own issues that she’s faced being a step mother and how possibly this whole mess could have been avoided.
